It's Who You Know, Not What You Know: Growing Your Social Capital
Three new people who will be valuable to helping me pursue my business idea, Clear Vote:
--------
1) A domain expert in your industry: Diana Davis
Diana Davis, owner of a law firm in Tampa that practices real estate law amongst other categories. As a lawyer, Diana offers a business that revolves around law and analytical skills, which is something clearly needed for any product involving unbiasedness and the government. Diana fills the domain expert slot because she deals with what I would be dealing with in my application but obviously in a more professional sense. I contacted Diana after I heard about her business from my mom. She went to her for property concerns in the past. I emailed her asking some questions and tips. She really helped me a lot with letting me know a lot more about the legal field and informing me the more legal and judicial side of the government which is helpful for making Clear Vote a possibility. I will definitely be meeting with her in the future when I need to see an attorney or get legal advice.
----------
2) Expert: Hannah F.
Hannah, works as the marketing director for the University of Florida. I met with her to discuss working with the schools snapchat and twitter and other media sources. My idea clearly deals with making the consumer happy through interaction. Which communication medians provide. Also it would be good for reporting. Hannah will be a great person to keep in my network.
---------
3)Suplier: Paul B.
Paul, owns an electronic shop in tampa as well. He mainly works with cameras but he also started getting involved with phones and applications. Since my idea is an application I would definitely need him in my network. He provides great tools that are a necessity in this electronic ran day and age.
Reflection:
This assignment really made me realize how difficult it is to build a network but how willing people are to meet with you and see your drive and plans and help to be a part of that.
Hey!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on this assignment. I agree with you that this was a pretty difficult assignment compared to the others but it definitely provides a lot of value! Judging from your post it seems like Diana provided you with the largest amount and most useful information in order to make your business venture possible! Great job again!
Hey Jessica!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I agree that this assignment just shows how hard it is to build a better network of people. I think its great that you met with the marketing director for our college, and it shows how dedicated all the staff is to our students and how motivated you are to grow your network of great people. I enjoyed reading your post!
Hello Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a really great Idea with your new phone app. I have visited many different countries where the people did not even have a vote or if they did it was not really counted. We have the greatest opportunity in the United States of America to let our voice be heard and our vote counted. I think a lot of people so not vote because they are uninformed. I think your app could give people more confidence and understanding on the issues and on who they would be voting for. I think you chose a good group of people to surround yourself with and build your social capital portfolio. Good luck on the launch of your new app. If you want to take a look at my elevator pitch check out my blog at http://9to5isoverrated.blogspot.com/2016/03/elevator-pitch-3.html
Hello Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post. It was interesting reading about the different people that you were able to meet with and gather information from. I also used my existing network to find people for the three categories. I think it is interesting that while at first, the three people that you listed seem unrelated; the lawyer, marketing director, and retail store owner are actually very relevant to your unifying idea.
I linked my blog post below. Feel free to take a look at it:http://entrepreneurship3003blog.blogspot.com/2016/03/growing-your-social-capital.html
Hi Jessica. What a helpful post! I like the feedback you got was very helpful to help you move forward with your product. Best of luck on the launch of your app! I like how you utilized a local supplier that wasn't necessarily the same as your product but could potentially be helpful. http://entgrod.blogspot.com/2016/03/growing-my-social-capital.html
