TALKING TO REAL PEOPLE
1) As a student here at UF, I often find it difficult for me to get around and go to the grocery store. Just this month I've only went out of my way twice to pick up the groceries I needed for the week. I know I am not the only one who has trouble making time to go to the grocery store. In addition to a lack of time, some students do not have adequate transportation here so they are limited to when they can go. So I thought of an opportunity. What if we could implement some sort of delivery option that is still somewhat affordable to delete the issue of not having time to pick up groceries. That way, everything you need can be delivered right to your door, saving you time.
2) Students around UF campus are the ones with this issue so the majority of my interviews took place there.
3) I asked: Do you live on or off campus? How often do you go to the grocery store? How often do you have an empty fridge? What are the main factors that prevent you from going to the grocery store (time, money, transportation)? Would you be interested in a delivery option if it were available to you?

5) Initially I thought that the delivery option would be a great idea. And after interviewing 5 people I realized that although a majority of them would participate, people like going to the grocery store themselves because they have specific brands of foods they like and often times they don't know exactly what they need until they get there. However, no one shot down the idea and said that they would probably try it at least once.
6) I wasn't too nervous when I interviewed students. Since it was random and I stopped people walking there was not a formal setting so I didn't feel pressured at all. I feel a lot better about approaching people now and asking them questions after the assignment because I realized how kind and cooperative people would be.
Hey Jessica,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, great idea. I constantly see people walking archer carrying groceries back to their apartment and I think to myself how much of a hassle that must be. I also have a few friends who's don't have cars and are having to struggle catching rides whenever one is available. The idea also creates jobs for others. Those who do have cars probably wouldn't mind making a few extra bucks grabbing other people groceries, especially if they planned on going themselves.
Hey Jessica,
ReplyDeleteAwesome opportunity that you thought of. Buying groceries is definitely hard for some students who do not have an easy way of transportation, such as a car or scooter. Luckily for me, I was able to bring my car from home so getting around and buying groceries isn't really an issue for me. Unluckily for my friend who I met who is from Hawaii, he has no way of transportation and has to rely on other people or the bus to buy food. A delivery option is actually a good idea, and I have actually seen a car with an advertisement back home in Tampa for a company that delivers groceries. Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog post to be done incredibly well. As a freshman I lived off campus and without a mode of transportation other than the bus. Your idea would greatly benefit people who were in the same frustrating postition that I was in. It became a weekly struggle for me to get to and fro the grocery store at my own free will. Other than just helping those who need to get groceries, you would also help out someone who was without a job before your service. This benefits all parties, consumers and producers alike.
Hey Jessica! I thought this was a great idea! I personally have a hard time going grocery shop now even with a car. My freshman year was even harder. I just survived on unhealthy campus food and munching off of friends' groceries. Even when you get groceries, making time to prepare your groceries is hard

ReplyDeleteHi Jessica! I really enjoyed your project as I found it to be very relatable to a struggle most of us face in college. When I lived in the dorm I never wanted to cook because of the dorm kitchen, and I didn't want to move my car due to UF parking. I think living in an apartment helps a lot, but there are still times I am too lazy to go grocery shopping and rely on take out instead. It's interesting to consider all the different factors that could stop someone from doing a task as simple as going to the grocery store!
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica! I think this idea is a huge issue that a lot of college students face. I was lucky enough to bring my car up this semester but over the previous year and a half it was a struggle to go get food at the grocery store because I knew that I would have to take a bus and wouldn't be able to buy a lot of the stuff that I wanted. I think it also helps with those that live where they have to rely on street parking as well because I know there are a lot of times that I don't want to move my car so I don't lose my spot.
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica! For my opportunity I chose something similar because delivery services are popular in college towns. My interview was about an alcohol delivery service. I find that you asked them great questions that led to the final information you wanted to get from the customers. I do not live on campus and I do not have a car and for those who are in situations similar to mine I’m sure would like to have this service.

I have seen another person trying to solve this common problem as well. I guess people really don't like to carry their groceries... I think it's interesting how the problems are the same however, you chose to solve it in a different way. I feel bad for the students that has to walk far for groceries or doesn't even have access to a walking distance of one (for those that can't drive). Best of luck
