Know Thyself: Whats your secret sauce?
1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.
Five things that really set myself apart, putting myself at some sort of advantage I would have to say are my five strengths of character. My five strengths are as follows: consistency, connectedness, harmony, self-assurance, and discipline. I am open minded and understanding and I think that is so important when you are dealing with people and hospitality in businesses and life.
2) Interview the five people who know you the best.
What do you think makes me different, focusing on my knowledge, skills, abilities, emotions, my human capital? Try to stay away from discussing your other types of capital (such as who you know). Record each interview. In your blog post, please post each interview, as well as a two-three sentence summary of each interview, explaining what your key takeaways are.
Having technical difficulties but videos will be up tonight.

3) Reflect on the differences.
I chose to interview my family and closest friends. After watching the videos I honestly was teary eyed. There are some parts of me that I don't really see because I am always trying to improve myself and get better and you cannot get better if you already think you are the best. But, what was said in my videos shows how passionate, caring, persistent, disciplined, and nurturing I am. My cousin said one thing about me was that I would make a great manager or person in charge because I don't let anyone just make excuses to not do their work. He said I could be mean where it counts, like running an office, I'm hard headed enough. That part was surprising for me but I really do like to be in control and dictate what needs to be done and in what way. Of course, the fact that I have a big heart with compassion and care I already knew. Most of my videos reiterated that. Overall, the responses I got about my work character were a lot more touching and positive than I expected. We definitely see ourselves differently than others see us. I truly enjoyed this exercise more than others!

Jessica, I wasn't able to watch your videos! Also, on the third part you didn't answer the questions you presented. I enjoyed reading the first part though, and it's cool that you feel like you are at harmony. Check out my post here: http://keifermcclainent3003.blogspot.com/2016/03/my-secret-sauce.html
ReplyDeleteHello Jessica,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I cannot view your videos. It sounds like you have all the attributes to being a great entrepreneur, from what I am dissecting from your post. Being open-minded is extremely important because it doesn't allow ignorance to blind you. I'm glad that you experienced what you did from your interviews because it reflects you are a humble person and that is great to know that a future entrepreneur is also humble in their ways as well.
Great job, unfortunately I did not complete this assignment.
Good stuff Jessica.
ReplyDeleteI think you sounded like you know yourself really well, or at least you convinced me of it. That's more important than anything. If you are able to pitch yourself well, you will see a lot of success here and it will move you forward well. Could you speak a little more to those 5 disciplines? Also, are you still having technical difficulty? Are you going to answer the questions you posted? I think you left some parts of this assignment incomplete.
I did not do this assignment.
I found many people's self description was more practical, and what others thought about them was more emotional and general. I thought this was a very good assignment because people who know you think you are caring, and though that is a very valuable personality trait that is hard to notice in yourself. I wasn't able to interview people who know me well, but check out my blog here: http://brientrep.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that you know the traits you have that set yourself from other people. But, also your friends and family do know you better than anyone else, and they can see what you possibly cannot. I wish I could watch your videos, but we can't view them right now. It's ok though. Good luck with everything, and here is my post if you want to look at it http://stefanent3003.blogspot.com/2016/03/my-secret-sauce.html
